What 3/4L students need to know before graduation.
d
No matter if you are graduating in May 2024 or December 2023, please make sure you are aware of the upcoming State Bar exams (July 2024, Feb 2024) and changes to your SCU network resource account status once you have officially graduated.

Starting April 2024, Santa Clara University IT will be transitioning your status from a registered SCU Law student to a SCU LAW Alumni. However, you must opt into the SCU Alumni email system to initiate the process. Most, if not all, of your SCU Network accounts (Google Workspace, MySCU email, Google Drive, Eduroam, Duo, etc.) will be degraded or disabled 90 days after of graduation. Please make sure to back up your files on Google Drive and/or Microsoft One drive before May 18, 2024 ( and certainly way before the start of your state bar exam) to avoid any issues with your data and/or being locked out of your documents.

Will my SCU email address still work after May 18, 2024?

Central IT will be transitioning your @scu email address to the @alumni.scu.edu email address 90 days after your graduation, but you need to opt into the SCU Alumni email system. You will need to assume that your email address may not be functioning by after July 2024. For information about alumni email, then visit SCU Alumni Email page.

What kind of changes will be happening to SCU Alumni Email?

Per Santa Clara University IT,

  1. Graduates will need to opt in to the service.
  2. Alumni Email accounts will have a limit of 15 GB of storage, instead of unlimited storage.
  3. Alumni Email accounts will have only Gmail and Contacts, instead of Google Workspace services like Drive, Photos, and Calendar.
  4. SCU IT will add a requirement for two-factor authentication, to improve security for the Alumni Email accounts (and for the whole SCU email domain).
If you need more information on SCU's policy electronic resources and how to opt into SCU's Alumni email system, then visit SCU's Logins and Accounts page, and review the section labeled Graduating Students - what you need to know about your access to SCU's electronic resources

Will I still be able to access my data on Google Drive after May 18, 2024?

Any accounts associated with @scu email address will be degraded or disabled 90 days after your graduation date. Please make sure you back up your data before May 18, 2024 and certainly before the start of your state bar exam.

Will I be able to use WiFi like Eduroam or print on campus using SmartPrint?

Eduroam and SmartPrint are associated with @scu email addresses and access to those network resources will be disabled 90 days after your graduation date. University IT knows that many SCU Law grads will be using campus WiFi so your SCU registered email and your access to Eduroam should work until the end of July. Please be aware that you may have to use SCU-Guest and SCU guest printing after May 18, 2024.

If you run into any issues with SCU network resources like Eduroam, then please contact University IT at 408-554-5700 or email them at techdesk@scu.edu. Please note SCU Law Technology cannot reset passwords or re-activate any SCU network accounts so contact University IT.

Will I be able to use Office 365 and One Drive after May 18, 2024?

Students lose access to Microsoft 365 after graduation, or if they leave SCU without graduation. Alumni are not eligible for our Microsoft 365 service. Files and data from removed accounts cannot be recovered after access is removed.

Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, etc.) and One Drive are associated with @scu email addresses so access to that SCU licensed subscription will be disabled 60 days after graduation. If you plan to use Office 365 after July 2024, then:

*Back up any data on your SCU old One drive volume before May 18, 2024.

*Purchase a personal subscription of Office 365 from Microsoft.

*Use your personal email address that you used to purchase the Office 365 subscription and sign in to activate your Office 365 products.
